Mary Robbins Simmons

Mary Robbins Simmons, 77, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Harrisonburg. Mary was born in Blowing Rock, NC on March 8, 1940. She spent most of her life in the Richmond area. She is preceded in death by parents George Thomas and Katherine Robinson Robbins, and sister Rena. Mary is survived by brother Thomas Eugene Robbins of La Conner, Washington; twin sister Marian Robbins Rosenberg of Charlotte, NC; son Warren L. Simmons of Colonial Heights; daughter Kristine Simmons Peifer and husband Tim of Harrisonburg; daughter Jan Simmons Abbott and husband Richard of Weems; and her beloved grandchildren Zackary Simmons, Reannen Stephenson, Emma Peifer, Jordan Abbott, and Joshua Abbott. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Longwood College and completed her master’s degree at Virginia Tech. Mary retired from the Department of Labor as a statistical analyst. She loved to spend her free time reading, gardening, cooking and was an avid supporter of the Virginia Tech Hokies. A memorial celebration of Mary’s life will be held on April 21st at 2:00 PM at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church in Harrisonburg. The family will greet visitors prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM.
