

She was born July 4, 1932 in Rockingham County, VA and was the daughter of the late Eldridge and Wilda Arey Wilhite.
Peggy spent her entire life in the Clover Hill community and graduated from Dayton High School in 1949. On May 19, 1951, she married her childhood sweetheart, Wayland “Wally” Long. Together they had two children, and were married 66 years.
For many years, she was employed by Rockingham Farm Bureau as a tax preparer and was also a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Wally’s Farm Supply, located in Harrisonburg. Peggy was active throughout the community. She worked the voter polls in the Ottobine area for thirty years. Peggy was a member of Mt. Bethel Church of the Brethren.
She volunteered for the Clover Hill Baseball Club concession stand, Massanutten Springs, Western State and while her children were students at Turner Ashby High School, she was active with the P.T.A.
Along with her husband, she is survived by her son, Terry Long, and wife, Carol of Alexandria, VA; daughter, Krista Morrison, and husband, Andrew of Alexandria, VA; five grandchildren, Terry Zane Long, II, and wife, Stephanie of Pittsburgh, PA, Heather Brun, and husband Kervens, of Morgantown, WV, Ian Morrison of Tampa, FL, Ethan Morrison, of Alexandria, VA and Tommy Kester of Alexandria, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at the Chapel of Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Pastors William Garber and W.L. “Sonny” Henkel officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.
