He was born on February 18, 1950 in Harrisonburg and was the son of the late Aubrey and Essie Costley Kee.
Richard graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1968. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served as an elder. He was also a member of The Valley Cruisers of Harrisonburg and was Assistant Scout Leader for Eagle Scouts Troop 145. He was founder and original owner of Kee’s Towing for 15 years.
Richard enjoyed building and working on his 1934 Ford street rod and going to cruise-ins and car shows. He collected HO Model trains and loved to build train layouts.
He was strong and brave in his fight with diabetes; his faith in God helped him in living a productive life. He had a hardy laugh and cheerful attitude.
On August 2, 1975 he married the former, Karen Vandevander, who survives.
He is also survived by his children, Melora Ramos and husband, Willie, Jr., of Rockingham, Nicholas Kee and wife, Melissa, of Singers Glen, and Jennifer Armstrong and husband, Sean, of Mt. Crawford; his grandchildren, Nalen, Tyler, Jacob and Lucas Ramos, Isaac, Beau and Lauren Armstrong; a brother, William “Mike” Kee of Harrisonburg, and by his beloved dog Gizmo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Kee.
The family will have a tribute to his life 6-8 pm, this evening (Tuesday) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. There will be no viewing and the casket will not be present at the church.
A graveside service will be held 10:30 am, Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at St. Jacob’s (Spader's) Lutheran Church Cemetery with Bishop Chris Mayfield officiating.
The family invites you to bring your street rods and antique cars to either of the services.
