Teresa was born on May 3, 1966, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, to the late Ralph Edward Brooks and Shirley Ann Brooks.
After many years together, Teresa married Mitch Markley on May 22, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Edward Brooks, and her son, Steven Alan Brooks. She is now joyfully reunited with her son, whom she carried in her heart and missed deeply for the past eleven years.
Teresa is survived by her mother, Shirley Ann Brooks; her daughter, Stephanie Patnode, of Virginia Beach, and her children, Joey and Shaun Leitmeyer and Christian and Natalie Patnode; her grandson, Steven Brooks, son of the late Steven Alan Brooks; and her sister, Cathy Brooks, of Harrisonburg and a niece Jordan Brooks of Harrisonburg.
She spent her life building lasting relationships and cherishing time with those she loved. Teresa found her greatest happiness in spending time with her family and loved being at the baseball field and attending sporting events, especially while cheering for her little Steven. Whether it was a game, a family gathering, or a quiet moment together, she valued every opportunity to be present with those she cared for.
She also shared a special bond with her dog, Trixie, who was a constant companion and brought her comfort and joy.
Teresa’s final resting place will be with her son, Steven, at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg, at a later date.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Gospel Hill Mennonite Church, located at 6179 Hopkins Gap Road, Fulks Run, VA 22830.
Teresa will be remembered for her strong love for her family, her dedication to those she held dear, and the many memories she leaves behind. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her love will continue to live on in the hearts of all
