
A son of Elene Artrip Bowers and the late Honorable Beverly Bay Bowers, he was born on October 12, 1955 in Harrisonburg. He was a lifelong resident of Harrisonburg, graduated from Harrisonburg High School, attended William & Mary College, and graduated from the University of Virginia. He earned his law degree from Tulane University in New Orleans.
Kent practiced law in Harrisonburg before becoming a substitute judge in General District Court. He was a member of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ. He enjoyed traveling and the company of good friends.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Beth Bowers of Staunton, Julie Bowers Liskey and her husband, Jeff of Bridgewater; nephew, Bay Bowers Liskey; nieces, Lea Dean, Carey Dean, Megan Dean and Brooke Liskey; one great-niece, Jaedyn Minor and three great-nephews, Samual Loveless, Wyatt Shaffner, and Weston Shaffner.
His body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 2:00 pm at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ with Rev. Tresa F. Quarles officiating. Burial will follow in Timberville Cemetery.
