

Benito G Canales was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on August 25, 1952 to Pedro Canales Sr. & Celia Canales. The son of migrant workers, “Benny” worked alongside his family in both the Texas heat as well as the California valleys. After high school he joined the Army. It was while in his “short” time in the Army that he met Maria Zatarain. It was with Maria that he had his first three children. Benito Jr. was born in Corpus Christi, Texas followed soon by Pedro in El Paso then Adriana. Benito & Maria married and settled in San Diego, California where Benny worked as an X-ray technologist. He eventually worked his way to Special Procedures technologist and finally Department manager. San Diego was where Benito’s fourth child, Angelica was born. Benito was a dedicated father to all his children. His love did not stop there. His nephew Ivan was often a part of family outings and vacations. Benito later relocated to northern California where he met Donna Bunting. They were married in a small ceremony in one of Benny’s favorite places. Yosemite National Park. Their marriage brought him more family, Donna’s children Rhonda, Dachelle and Terry.
Benito & Donna relocated to Louisiana where they could enjoy a quieter lifestyle.
After a short battle with cancer Benito passed away on April 3, 2012. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Pedro Sr. & Celia as well as his brothers Pedro Jr, Chris & Fred.
He leaves behind his wife, Donna Canales, his children; Benito Jr., Pedro, Adriana & Angelica. Step-Children; Rhonda, Dachelle & Terry. His first wife Maria. He also leaves his siblings, Jesus, Anita, David, Theo, John, Emilio, Gilbert, Gloria, Hector & Steve. As well as 11 grand children: Calvin, Alex, Amanda, Isabella, Nathaniel, Madeline, Lilly, Isla, Michael, Miranda & Italia and 4 step-grand-children; Hailey, Colton, Avery & Logan. Others left behind are tons of nephews and nieces and too many friends to count.
Services will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel On Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. with David Canales officiating.
Interment will follow in Plain Dealing Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 6, 2012 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.
