Charles Edward Horton, Jr., 81, of Benton, Louisiana was called to his Heavenly home on February 21, 2025, following a courageous battle with Leukemia. He was born on June 23, 1943, in Natchitoches, Louisiana to the late Charles Edward Horton, Sr. and Evelyn Butler Horton.
Ed was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Natchitoches before moving to Benton and joining Cypress Baptist Church. He always enjoyed the fellowship and learning of God’s word.
Ed had a natural talent that allowed him to flourish in everything he touched. He had the opportunity to explore Tuscaloosa, Decatur, and Scottsboro, Alabama during his earlier years of employment with Gibson’s Retail Company as a manager and a controller from the years of 1966 through 1976. In his later years, Ed was an auditor in the hospitality industry for Safari Management.
Ed always enjoyed spending his spare time cooking, fishing, watching LSU and the Cowboys. In his college era, Ed played football and track for Northwestern where he earned his degree in Accounting and Business Management.
Ed had a supreme love for family. He always looked forward to having his grandchildren for a week during the summer. Ed looked forward to spending time with them on the lake, gardening, and entertaining them.
Ed was preceded in passing by his parents; one sister; Mignon Morgan and her husband John, and one brother-in-law; Butch Martin. He was also preceded by man’s best friend, his black lab; Zoey, whom we would like to think met Ed at Heaven's Gates.
Left to cherish Ed’s wonderful memories are his beloved wife of fifty-eight years; Linda Jo Horton, two sons: Kevin Horton, Tim Horton and his wife Kara, one sister; Lou Martin, five grandchildren: Heather Juarrero and husband Spencer, Conner Horton and his wife Hannah, Cameron Horton and his wife Macie, Cole Horton, Caroline Horton, two great-grandchildren: Aspen Juarrero, Dylon Juarrero (our bundle of joy on the way), many extended family members and numerous wonderful friends.
We would like to extend our warmest gratitude to John White, Justin James, Lisa James, Rick Berry, Deborah Berry, Sr. Pastor Tommy Patton, Rick Slaton, Shelia Slaton, and our Cypress Baptist Church family for the friendships, continued prayers, compassion, and condolences express during this most touching time.
Memorials may be made in honor of Ed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at st.jude.org.
We will be holding a committal service for Ed, Monday, March 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM on the grounds of Hill Crest Memorial Park, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana 71037.
