

To be born and then to be received by his Heavenly Father 95 years later on the same day. A birthday celebration in deed!
Charles E. Sherrer, 95, was born to J.L. Sherrer and Addie Dodd Sherrer in Texarkana, TX on July 31, 1930 and passed away on July 31, 2025 in Bossier City, LA.
He spent his life on earth with the love of his life Dolores whom he affectionately called momma.
Charles saw her in the 4th grade and said, "I'm gonna marry her" and in fact he did. They married August 12, 1950, 36 hours later he was shipped off to Korea with the Marine Corp. He was one of the Chosin Few. He survived walking 78 miles in minus 40 degree weather.
Through his career, he rose through the ranks to be CWO-4.
His military decorations included: National Defense Service, Navy Presidential Unit Citation, Marine Corps. Good Conduct, Navy Unit Commendation, United Nations Service, Selected Marine Corps. Reserves, Korean Service, and Korean Presidential Unit Citation.
Charles was a proud veteran whose service and dedication continued well beyond the military. He was honored with the 1st IBEW Veteran of the Year, and received the prestigious Omar Bradley Award at the Independence Bowl for the survivors of the Chosin Reservoir. Charles was also featured a Hometown Hero on Channel 3. He was also interviewed by Norton Art Gallery.
Charles and Dolores made their home in Texarkana, TX. Started a family, made lots of friends and loved life together. He loved fishing, hunting, and traveling. They traveled all over the United States with many friends.
In civilian life he was an electrician and worked at many different companies.
A member of Kings Highway Christian Church since 1962. He loved his church and church family very much.
His last passion was picking up leaves with his "pinchers"...One Leaf at a Time!!
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Dolores Rachel Sherrer; daughter Charla Sherrer Honeycutt and husband Mark; son, David Sherrer and wife, Lynn; he was Popi to grandchildren, Jeffrey Howard (Angela), Logan Sherrer (Belisa); great grandchildren, Bailey Bridges Spears (Tyler), Gauge Howard, Sienna Sherrer; great-great grandchild, Garrett Spears; as well as a host of Very Special grand, great and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents J.L. and Addie Sherrer; sister, Peggy Sherrer Taylor; granddaughter, Jill Howard Bridges, and a lot of very loved animals.
A memorial service and reception will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Kings Highway Christian Church.
