It is with deep sadness that the family of David Joel Hay announces his passing on December 29th, 2024, at the age of 67. David was born on February 21st, 1957, in Pineville, Louisiana, to Dwight Samuel Hay Sr. and Mary Hay Kees. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
David was the devoted husband of Darlene Carter Hay for 41 years. Together, they shared a life full of love, laughter, and shared memories. He was a proud father to his daughter, Katie Hay Dyer, and her husband, Kevin. His heart was full of love for his future grandson, Landon Carter Dyer.
David is also survived by his siblings, Samuel Hay and wife Cherie, Christol Whitlock and husband Jim, and Bonnie Frederick and husband Scott. He was preceded in death by his father, Dwight Samuel Hay Sr.; mother, Mary Hay Kees; and stepfather, Ralph Kees.
David grew up in Pineville, Louisiana and graduated from Pineville High School. He worked for many years in the Water Department with the City of Shreveport. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching LSU and Saints football. He was a man of deep faith and enjoyed attending Elm Grove Baptist Church.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, and a proud PawPaw to his future grandson. His family and friends will forever remember his kindness and sense of humor. David knew no stranger.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to South Bossier Fire and Rescue Station 1 for their service and assistance with David, as well as Willis Knighton Home Health for their compassionate care.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2nd, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Elm Grove Baptist Church, located at 8180 Barksdale Blvd. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM officiated by Pastor Kurt Zortman. Burial will take place at 3:00 PM at Hill Crest Memorial Park, 601 US Highway 80 East. A bereavement meal will be served immediately following the burial at Elm Grove Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Chucky Stevens, Jay Bulloch, Rodney Pilgrim, Jared Carter, Kenneth Marquez, Kevin Dyer, and John Fox. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmie Hudson, Steve Sutton, and Kenneth Lofton.
David’s family finds comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and no longer in pain, surrounded by the love of those who went before him. He will forever be remembered in the hearts of his family and friends.
