

Shreveport, LA – Dean Franklin Hackwith passed away peacefully at home October 18, 2017. Services celebrating his 88 years of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday October 22, 2017 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for visitation at 1:00 p.m., the hour prior to service.
Dean was born August 10, 1929 in Edelstein, IL. to Horace and Luella Hackwith. He proudly served as an Airman First Class at Biggs Air Force Base in El Paso, TX. Dean was a radar operator on B-29s monitoring the testing of atomic bombs. He was a Korean War Veteran and received an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1954. He married Cynthia Addington in 1956 and had 3 children. Dean retired from Bellsouth as a switchman in 1985. Dean could be found “tinkering” in his shop for hours while modifying something he recently purchased or repurposed to make it fit his intended use. He was a sarcastic jokester. Dean was a teller of old world tales and loved to share his vast knowledge with anyone who would listen.
Dean was preceded in death by his son LTJG Grady D. Hackwith, both of his parents, 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Cynthia A. Hackwith; daughter, Cindy Morvan and husband Bobby of Shreveport, La; daughter Colleen Skains of Shreveport, LA; sister, Mary McCloud and husband Bill of Buda, IL; his granddaughters, Denise Clarke and husband Josh of Shreveport, LA, Crystal Roe and husband Frank of Houston, TX, and Amanda Skains of Shreveport, La; his grandsons, Eric Morvan and wife Deana of Shreveport, La and James Skains of Shreveport, LA; 9 great grandchildren, Caleb, Morgan, and Katelyn Clarke, Samantha Creech, Wyatt and Logan Delcambre, Grady and Gabby Morvan, and Daizy Skains as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Morvan, James Skains, Eric Morvan, Josh Clarke, Frank Roe, Jr, Caleb Clarke, Morgan Clarke, Grady Morvan, Wyatt Delcambre and Logan Delcambre.
The family would like to thank Dr. K. Patel, Dr. Everton, WK Home Health, and Nightingale Hospice for their dedicated compassionate care. Colleen and Cindy would like to thank their mother for nursing their father through over 20 years of medical ups and downs.
