Doris was born in Clinton, North Carolina on September 24, 1930 to Ernest Timothy Hobbs and Lucy Carr Hobbs. Shortly after graduating from high school, she joined the United States Air Force. While stationed at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, Doris met the man of her dreams, William E. “Bill” Owen. They married on April 3, 1952.
Doris was a people person. She loved swapping stories, exchanging recipes, cooking, and traveling. She and Bill saw the United States in their RV, often accompanied by young David and Brian. Family was most important to Doris. She never missed an opportunity to show and tell her loved ones how much she appreciated them. Those left behind will miss her deeply while reveling in the wonderful memories made over the years.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Bill; their pride and joy, daughter, Linda O. Humke and husband Mike; grandsons, David Humke and wife Lisa and Brian Humke and wife Desirae; and great-grandsons, Coty Brower and Owen Humke. Also left to cherish her memory are numerous nieces and nephews and countless loving friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, and 1 sister.
Funeral arrangements as follows: Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home & Cemetery, 601 US 80 East, Haughton LA 71037, Saturday, January 29, 2022, 1-2 pm visitation, 2 pm chapel service with burial immediately following.
Honoring Doris as pallbearers are Billy Phipps, Len Willis, Pat Gilliland, Steve Schafer, Mason Cornelius, Justin Cornelius and Coty Brower.
