She was such an outgoing, fiesty little redhead that had such a loving soul. She loved her family, cooking, dancing, watching her “cow shows” and playing pool. This is what she did for fun when she was at her best health before being diagnosed with Dementia in 2018. She spent a lot of time at the Amvets Post 5 and 6 in Monroe, Louisiana, playing in pool tournaments and winning several trophies. She was loved by so many friends and family during her life with us here but now she has gone to be with her father and mother, Lonnie and Mamie Pettis; and her brother, ML Pettis. I don't want to leave out her grandfather, Poppa John Hughes, because she was so close to him. He was like a father to her.
She is survived by her two daughters, Dorothy Dodd Hernandez and Linda Dodd Warren; her seven grandchildren, Shonda Lewis, Kevin Miller, Gina O’Neal, Phillip Miller, Karee Sketoe, Jody Lindsey and Tony Lewis; her twelve great grandchildren, Blake Mims, Kendal Mims, Taylor Brook Lewis, Chase Bates, Hunter Lewis, McKenzie O’Neal, Jordan Miller, Savannah O’Neal, Brooks Miller, Kasee Sketoe, Jaren Lindsey and Nealie Lindsey; and also her nine great-great grandchildren, Hayden Mims, Brooklyne Mims, Ella Mims, Charlie Mims, Gracie Mims, Maverick Rockett, Mason Lewis, Kaleb Mims and Hudson Lewis.
A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Carter will be held at her granddaughter's, Shonda Lewis', home on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. Mrs. Lewis can be reached for further detail at (318) 347-0404.
