Doug was born January 10, 1959 and received his ultimate healing on January 23, 2011 after battling colon cancer for almost two years.
Visitation will be at Hill Crest Funeral Home in Haughton, LA on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
Services will be held at Eastwood Baptist Church, 2810 Hwy 80, Haughton, LA on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 2:00 pm.
Doug always had a servant’s heart as he was taught to serve the Lord and others while growing up in Princeton Baptist Church. He was currently serving at Eastwood Baptist Church where he touched many lives. He made several trips to the Mexican Indian Training Center (MITC) in Cordoba, Mexico. He truly loved the people there and looked forward to going each year.
Doug started playing Dixie League ball in the 6th grade. He continued to play baseball and football at Airline High School where he was a proud member of the Class of 1977. He continued enjoying the sport of baseball by umpiring in the Bossier/Haughton area. He never lost the love of the sport. He was constantly asking all the kids about their games.
He was preceded in death his moma, Beverly Salter Merritt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Connie Marie Jordan Merritt. His father, Darlton and Inez Merritt. Children, Clint and Sarah Morris, Krista Merritt and Jared Merritt. His siblings, Roger and Karen Merritt and Sheryl and Roy Culpepper. Grandchildren, Caleb, Brooklyn and Braden Morris. His nieces, Amanda Merritt, Kalli and Jenna Culpepper.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mildred Jordan and the entire Jordan family and many aunts, uncles and special cousins.
Pallbearers will be Richard Cox, Dickie Hadden, Jerry Greer, Mike Young, Robert Roe, Andrew Sewell, Matthew Sewell and Dustin Calhoun. Honorary pallbearers will be Bossier Parish Fire District 1.
