

Bill was born in Shreveport, LA to the late Willie Woodson and Laura Watson. At an early age he was baptized at New Mount Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend WM Rufus and the Reverend CM Page. He attended Indian Hill School in Elm Grove, LA and graduated from Princeton High School in 1961. He was an track athlete and quarterback. He also sang in the choir.
After high school he worked at the Beck Building in Shreveport as a porter, after that he moved to Houston, TX and worked for Schill Steel as a crane operator. In 1967 he was drafted into the Army which became his career and he reached the rank of Sergeant First Class and retired in 1987. He was awarded the Bronze Star along with many other awards throughout his career.
Bill loved football throughout his life. He watched every game he could. He enjoyed gospel music and had a collection of over 300 albums. He especially loved the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.
Bill was a member of Promiseland Church in Austin, TX.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Woodson; mother, Laura Wilkerson; stepfather, Elijah Wilkerson, Sr.; brother, Robert Wilson, Jr., stepbrothers, Willie Taylor, Luther Dewberry and Ernest Woodson; and stepsister, Marzinnie Madden.
Bill is survived by his sister, Mary White of Bossier City; brothers, Elijah Wilkerson, Jr. and wife Shelia of Shreveport, John Henry Wilkerson of Bossier City, Cornelius Wilkerson and wife Bonnie of Houston, TX, Louis Wilkerson and wife Liz of Shreveport; sisters, Katherine (Edward) Curtis of Houston, TX and Dorothy Woodson of Shreveport; brothers, Pastor Willie (Paula) Woodson, Ray (Joyce) Woodson, Ronald (Tanya) Woodson and Reginald Woodson; stepsisters, Nancy Smith of Shreveport and Latrenda (Melvin) Floyd of Dallas, TX; stepbrother, Terry Taylor of Bossier City and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 11:00 am at Ebernezer Baptist Church in Elm Grove. He will be laid to rest at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery on Monday, March 16, 2026 at 10:30 am.
