Butch Bowman, age 85, went home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2011. He was born December 19, 1925, to the late H.N. and Amanda Bowman, living most of his life in Bossier City, LA. Mr. Bowman’s father served as a Bossier City Alterman, and named a street in the city, after each of his three children. The family owned Bossier Shoe Shop for over 60 years.
As a young boy he participated in sports and Boy Scouts. He was a proud member of the 1942 State Champion football team of Bossier High School. After graduation, he served in the Navy in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. Upon returning from the service, he attended East Texas
Baptist College.
He was married for 56 years to Wanda Creech Bowman. She passed away in December, 2008. They loved to travel, camp, dance, and spend time with their family and friends.
Butch will long be remembered in the oil and gas industry as a 26 year salesman for Dresser Industries. His many friends recall his love for chili cook-offs, and golf, as a co-founder of the Independent Oilmen’s Golf Tournament, at Palmetto Country Club.
Mr. Bowman was a 33rd degree Mason, of the Cypress Lodge and a member of the El Karubah, Shriners of Shreveport, LA. He was also a member of Cypress Baptist Church.
Along with his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by younger brother, Henry Bowman.
Butch is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Delbert Wilson of Bossier City. He is also survived by his daughter and caretaker, Linda Jordan of Bossier City, son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Patti Bowman, of Tyler TX. He was very proud of his two grandsons, Adam Jordan of Bossier City and Patrick Bowman of Tyler, TX. Also left behind are many nieces, nephews and friends. We will always remember his kindness, beautiful blue eyes, and sweet smiles.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Butch on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at
Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. Rev. Billy Pierce will be officiating the service. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
