Gladys was born in Noble, Louisiana to George and Sara Garza. Her mother died when Gladys was 6 weeks old. She was raised by George and her grandmother, Marceline Malmay. Gladys was the youngest of 6 siblings which include Sam, Lennis, George, Essie, and Julia Mae. All preceded Gladys in death.
Gladys married O.V. Martinez on April 16, 1951 and raised three children: Paul (Great Falls, MT), Sarah (Colorado Springs, CO), and Stephen (Wichita, KS). Gladys and O.V. moved several times in the first 15 years of their marriage including Arizona, Idaho, Michigan, Arkansas, and finally settling in Louisiana when O.V. retired from the U.S. Air Force. O.V. preceded Gladys in death
Gladys remarried to Billy L. Tribble and together they enjoyed many weekends rooting for the Arkansas Razorbacks in the fall and as active members of Love Chapel in Haughton Louisiana.
Gladys is survived by her children, Paul Martinez, Sarah Horvath (John), and Steven Martinez (Suzie); 5 grandchildren, Heather, Michael, Richard, Amy, Adam; and 2 great-granddaughters; as well as many nieces and nephews. A special call out to her friends and neighbors in Louisiana who were always available and very supportive of Gladys in her later years. She cherished each of you and the time spent over a cup of coffee.
A celebration of life will be held in Haughton, LA. at Hill Crest Funeral Home (HWY 80) on June 5, 2024 with visitation beginning at 9:00AM, followed by a brief service at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Gladys name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
