Chief Master Sergeant (Ret) James Archie Moody passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on September 16, 2023, in Bulverde, Texas holding the hand of his daughter, Cindy. James was born on October 18, 1936 in Opp, Alabama. He joined the United States Air Force with his brother, William, in 1955 serving until 1986. During his time in the Air Force, he received a bachelor’s degree from Troy University. Following his retirement from the Air Force in February 1986, he joined the Postal Service, becoming a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He proudly served a total of 50 years for his country. He was a member of Shriners International, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and volunteered with the Honor Guard assisting military funerals until he was unable to do so.
James is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Linda Sue Moody, in 2016, his parents John D. Moody and Alice Adelia Kilpatrick Moody, and his siblings; Dorothy Frances McLean, Jonnie Morgan, K P Moody, Lorette Hubble, and Willie Darling Moody. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Armstrong, of Bulverde, Texas; his three grandchildren, Ashley, Nicholas, and Macy, who he loved dearly; his sister, Burnice Avanell Lawford; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He touched the lives of countless individuals through his service, bigger-than-life personality, and selfless acts. He will be remembered for his quick humor, for his infectious smile, and for cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The family would like to extend its sincerest gratitude to Embrace Hospice for their dignified care, and to his grandson, Nicholas, for the amazing care he provided in James’ final years of life.
James’ nephew, Dr. Scott Moody, will officiate services at Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton, Louisiana on Tuesday, September 26 at 11:00AM. James will be laid to rest next to the greatest love of his life, Linda.
