Janet Shelton Stephens

Janet was born on October 1, 1953 to Hirschel C. and Grace (Reel) Carithers in Greenville, MS. She was a loving wife to her husband, James and a caring mother to her daughter and son. Janet was a kindergarten teacher in Claiborne and Webster Parish for over 20 years until her retirement in 2003. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was an avid cook and recipe collector. She loved to sew and garden in her younger years. In her leisure time she enjoyed painting. She always looked forward to surprise visits from her grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Janet is survived by her husband, James Stephens; daughter, Gracanne Story and husband Curt; son, Terry Wayne Shelton, Jr.; grandchildren, Brook Owen and husband Gage, Cameron Shelton, Reed Story, Aiden Story, Asher Shelton and Dixie Grace Shelton; great grandson, Creed Owen; sister, Nancy C. Stallings and husband George and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Whispering Pines/ Old Brownlee Community Care Center for their kindness and care over the past 17 years. The family would also like to thank James, her wonderful doting husband who cared for her daily over the last 14 years.
