On February 12, 2022, Joe Michael Bonner, age 74, passed through Heaven’s Gate to the presence of our Lord. Mike put up a valiant fight against COVID. We thought he had won, but the Lord had another plan for him.
Mr. Bonner was born in Nashville, AR on July 25, 1947 and grew up in Belcher, La. He attended North Caddo High School, where he is in the Baseball Hall of Fame. He excelled in several sports, but his love was baseball. Mike attended Northwestern State University and Baptist Christian College and obtained his Bachelor of arts degree in 1969.
He was quite a celebrity in the 80’s, due to his umpiring skills. His love of sports and particularly, youth sports kept him involved with his passion. Though many activities captured his attention, one example is that he kept stats for the Evangel Eagles Varsity Football team from 2003 - 2010, never accepting a penny for his efforts.
After graduation, he coached at North Caddo High School, in Vivian, La, where he had an undefeated football season.
He served his country in the US ARMY National Guard, as a medic in the 1st BN 156 Infantry, HHC, as a Master Sergeant.
Mike eventually joined his father at Bonner Oil Company for many years.
Mike was preceded in death by: father, Haskell Bonner; mother, Clara Bonner; and his beloved nephew, Ron Bonner Clemence.
Left to cherish Mr. Bonner’s memory are: his adoring wife of over 46 years, Sherrie Weathersby Bonner; daughter, Tammie Cheri Rose; grandson, Charles Cameron Rose; granddaughter, Hannah Cheri Rose; and his sister, Linda Bonner.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be hosted in the Chapel, between 1 – 2 pm, followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm. The Committal, within Hill Crest Memorial Park, will conclude the services at approximately 3:00 pm.
Serving as Pallbearers are: Matthew Martin, Cameron Rose, Eddie Weathersby and Honorary Pallbearer, Chad Rose.
