John passed away on November 23, 2025, surrounded by the family who loved him deeply. Born on October 17, 1934, John lived his life full of adventure, love, and a keen sense of wonder.
He was exceptionally proud to have served our nation in the United States Air Force for 21 years working on the bombing navigation systems of the B-52 bomber. After his military service he embarked on a second career servicing office machinery and early computer systems. Even in retirement he stayed active and found great joy in collecting and rehoming old relics as a flea market vendor until he was 90 years old. John was also a member of The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York for 57 years.
He had a great love and passion for travel and experiencing everything the world had to offer. He was very proud to have visited all 50 states and 110 countries. He shared this passion with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. John was a jokester, never met a stranger, and always had smile to share.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Leta Mae Vaughn Moore; daughters Deborah Moore Hughes (David); Sheryl Moore Garcie (Kent); and son Stephen Gregory Moore; his grandchildren who adored their “Poppy”, Heather Ogden (Scott); Paul Daniel (Donna); John David Hughes; Ethan Garcie; and his great grands who he adored, Jacob Daniel; Rachael Ogden; Abby Ogden; Alice Daniel and Bailey Mae Moore.
He is also survived by one sister: Shirley Conrad; and numerous nieces and nephews that will miss him.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Pinkney Moore and Tishia King Moore; sisters, Bea Armour and Betty Jo Roach; son, John Michael Moore; and granddaughter, Ashley Elaine Moore.
Pallbearers will be David Hughes, Scott Ogden, Paul Daniel, Ethan Garcie, Jacob Daniel and Solomon Washington.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 10:00-11:00AM at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton, LA. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 11:00AM at the same location, with burial to follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
