Preceding John in death were his parents; his wife, Stella; daughter, Pam; five sisters, Helen, Alma, Opel, Marion and Rose; and one brother, Michael. Surviving John are his brothers, William (Judy) and George (Amy); and sister, Ann Morgan.
John married Mattie Ruth Hicks and they had two children, Deborah (Bo), and John (Kayla). John and Mattie moved their family to Bossier City where he began his career working for the South Cooperation (Pak-a-Sak) until retirement.
John married his second wife, Stella, and they were married for 48 years until her death last year. John welcomed the role as step- father to Aubrey (Judy), Charles (Linda) and Pam. He was Papaw to seven grandchildren, seventeen great grands, and two great great grandchildren.
Because of the death of his step- daughter, John and Stella were very involved in the life of granddaughter, Megan (Josh), and their four daughters, Madison, Hayden, Brynlee and Everly. Also granddaughter, Stephanie (Jason) and their three children, T.J., Taylor and Tristen.
Left to cherish John’s memory is his daughter, Deborah (Bo); son, John (Kayla); grandchildren, Stacey, Lindsey (Jason), Ann Marie (Brad) and John Paul; great grandchildren, Matthew Stewart USMC, Brennon, Grayson and Austin Bloxom, Bradyn and Paisley Byrd.
John found great joy visiting with his three- year old great grandson, Austin. Austin made Dad laugh when nothing else would. He would say, “Papaw, tell me 5 crazy questions”. Papaw would just laugh and say, “Well that is kinda hard.”
Dad was also survived by many family and friends both on his side and Stella’s side whom he loved and enjoyed being with.
John was a wonderful husband, dad and papaw. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
John believed in hard work and doing the job right the first time. All who knew John knew there were three ways to do a job; the right way, the wrong way, and John’s way.
Daddy, you were truly my hero and I will miss you so much after being with you every day for at least the past couple of years. Deuteronomy 5:16
