Juanita Estelle Faulkner Meek, 94, went to join our Father in Heaven on Thursday December 24th at 12:25 pm, from illness brought on by the Covid-19 virus, at the Intensive Specialty Hospital in Bossier City Louisiana.
She was born February 4, 1926, in Bennington Oklahoma to Cephus Monroe and Ethel Hardisty Faulkner, she was the second born and the eldest living child of 12 children.
In 1943 she worked alongside Aunt Mary Lou Davis May as a riveter at a plant in Compton California.
She attended Southern California Bible College in Pasadena CA 1946-1949 now Vanguard University of Southern CA.
She married the love of her life Garland Jesse Meek on April 22, 1950, in Exeter California. They were introduced by Dad’s sister Lora Meek at a church revival and married 2 weeks later in Grandpa Meek’s home. Dad was in the US Army 21+ years and she followed him to every station allowed. This meant moving home and children every 2-4 years, she said she would not have had it any other way, her place was by his side.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She loved reading her bible, talking to her children, siblings, nieces and nephews and friends on the telephone. She called everyone (numbered in the hundreds) in the family and extended family on their birthday every year. She was a wonderful cook and gardener and is well known for her chocolate gravy and biscuits and her yeast rolls at holiday gatherings.
She was strong in her Christian faith and loved the Lord Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Barksdale Baptist Church since July 1966.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 6 siblings, Monroe Faulkner, Sylvia Kathryn Faulkner, Amy Jalaska Faulkner, Marvin Hugh Faulkner, Jarvis Wendell Faulkner, and Curtis Bryant Faulkner.
She is survived by her children James and wife Vickie Meek of Bossier City, LA, Mary and husband Wayne Corley of Lone Star, TX, Lydia Meek of Bossier City, LA, David and wife Connie Meek of Haughton, LA, Jesse Meek of Bossier City, LA and Jon and wife Dennise Meek of Carthage TX.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Justin and wife Jamie Meek of Stonewall, LA, Dawn and husband Cody White of Bossier City, LA, Deidra and husband Matt Horn of Tyler, TX, Jordan Meek of Carthage TX and Jason Meek of Carthage, TX.
She is survived by her great-grandchildren Emma and Kaden Meek of Stonewall LA, Della, Harper and Leighanna White of Bossier City, LA.
She is also survived by her siblings Kenneth and wife Ellyn Faulkner of Clovis, CA; Donald Faulkner of Stroud, OK; Wanda Lois Godfrey of Visalia, CA; Beverly Faulkner of Visalia CA and Carroll Lee Faulkner of Farmersville CA and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on January 2, 2021 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, Haughton, Louisiana. A private graveside service will follow the visitation with pastors Calvin Hubbard and Shaun Armstrong officiating.
In light of her love for all children the family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to either Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe Louisiana or Pleasant Hills Children’s Home in Fairfield Texas.
