She married her husband, William Somers Dyer, on December 12, 1943. Mrs. Dyer is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents, Preston and Ivy Thetford; brother, Kelly and sisters, Estelle, Gertrude, Mildred and Mary Maude.
Marguerite is survived by her sons, William P. (and wife Susan), Richard S. (and wife Trudie), daughter Catherine and niece Pat Branton. She leaves behind seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
As a member of the “Greatest Generation”, Mrs. Dyer dedicated her life to serving others as a Wife, Mother, Music Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, Childcare Manager, Counselor, Gardner, Cook and Hostess with the gift of Hospitality. She was an exemplary example of a Christian woman.
She will be fondly remembered as the Hostess who always encouraged one to “have another helping” even though you were so full you were about to burst. She was the lady who amazed us all by smuggling frozen collard greens and pecan pies in her flight luggage to Disney World.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2025, at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel, Highway 80 East, Haughton, LA, with Pastor Steve Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Haughton Cemetery.
The family wishes to express deepest appreciation to Dr. Ted Warren and staff, the Hospice Care Nurses and workers, Hill Crest Funeral Home, and all of her many friends at Eastwood Baptist Church where she was a charter member, and Vision Gathering Ministry of which she was also a founding member.
