Mary Elizabeth Bonomo Tuminello, 94, of Bossier City, Louisiana was born on September 3, 1927 and was welcomed in to the gates of heaven with Jesus and reunited with the love of her life, Johnny A. Tuminello, on December 26, 2021.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Tuminello, Friday, January 7, 2022, 2:00 P.M., at St. Jude Catholic Church in Benton, LA. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. prior to the service. Entombment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Mausoleum, Haughton, LA.
Mary graduated from Bossier High School in 1944 and then completed Business School in Shreveport, Louisiana. She spent many years fulfilling her role as a mother providing care to their four young daughters before working along side of her husband as owners and operators of several family grocery stores in the Shreveport, Bossier City and Benton areas, and later began a secretarial career for Stanley Home Products, LA Unemployment Office, and Bossier Parish Community College before retirement. She married her lifelong sweetheart, Johnny, in 1947, and was married for 65 years until his death in 2012.
She enjoyed many things throughout her life, especially the rare moments. Mary took the opportunity to support World War II by rolling and packing bandages for the use of our wounded soldiers. She never passed up the chance when her grandchildren came to visit her at their grocery store to hand them a brown paper bag to fill it up with their favorite treats. Mary had a special love for music and dancing. And in her spare time, she could be found visiting the casinos or spending numerous hours on her IPad. Mary felt truly blessed with the life she was given and when the time came for her to be called home, she was at peace and ready without hesitation.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Tony L. Bonomo and Martha Glorioso Bonomo; two daughters, Christine Tuminello-LeGrand and Cynthia Tuminello; sister, Sandra Louise Fertitta; and sons-in-law, John LeGrand and Mark Peters. She is survived by two daughters, Vickie Tuminello-Williams (husband Kenny) and Martha Tuminello-Mulder (husband Marcin); grandchildren, Lisa LeGrand-Aguirre, Tiffany LeGrand-Joyner (husband Sean), Shawn McCalister (husband Russ Williamson), Angela McCalister-Burcham, Michael McCalister (wife Jessica), Nick Peters (wife Lindsay), Brant Peters (wife Kati), and Erica Marzec (husband Eric); great-grandchildren, Landon Joyner, Ainsley Burcham, Isabella Joyner, Emma Marzec, Nathan Burcham, Stella Peters, Sophia Peters, Mia McCalister and Chloe McCalister; and many cousins, relatives and special friends.
Pallbearers will be Shawn McCalister, Michael McCalister, Brant Peters, and Michael Cannon.
The best part of Mary's life was spending time with family and friends. She was a devout Catholic for many years at Christ The King Church and in recent years St. Jude Catholic Church. Mary was a member of the Central Association of the Miraculous Medal since the age of 16 and faithfully distributed these medals all throughout her life to people she came in contact with to spread the Virgin Mary's message no matter their denomination.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Becker, RN Leah Boswell and the Willis Knighton Bossier Hospital staff for their kindness and compassion while providing care for Mary.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriner's Hospital.
