Meredith Ann King, often lovingly referred to as “MAK”, was a caring and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world in her sleep on the morning of July 8, 2023, at the age of 77.
She was born to Fred Carl (F.C.) and Sylvia Chamberlain in Jennings, LA, on December 11, 1945. After growing up and graduating in Hodge, LA, she met and married Robert A. Hanks and they had two children: Michael and Todd. After moving to and raising her boys in Ft. Worth, TX, she met and married her husband of over 20 years, Frank King.
Due to her vibrant personality, Meredith was creative and entrepreneurial and exceeded in sales most of her adult life. She retired as a Regional Sales Manager for Nationwide Studios – Teddy Bear Portraits. She was known by all to be “feisty and fun”, considered to be the “life of the party”, and had a knack for making everyone feel loved and welcome. She was the mom at whose house all the neighborhood kids gathered. She also had a special place in her heart for those who were down and out and needed another chance when other bridges had been burned. She never met a stranger!
Meredith was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Carl and Sylvia Chamberlain, and a brother, Bobby Chamberlain.
She is survived by one brother, F.C. Chamberlain Jr. ; two children, Michael Hanks of Richmond, VA, and Todd Hanks and his wife, Denise, of Rayne, LA; five grandchildren, Timothy, Sophia, Mitchell, Caleb, and Josie; and her later-life constant companion and caretaker, Donald Johnson.
