

Visitation will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home in Haughton, Louisiana, on Tuesday, February 16 from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Funeral service will be held at Bellaire Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 17, at 1:00 P.M. with Dr. Randy Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery with Stanley Horton officiating.
Mildred was born to the late Emmitt and Laura Murphy Methvin in Red River Parish, Louisiana, on January 5, 1933. She started her education at Methvin School in Methvin, Louisiana and graduated from Martin High School in Hall Summit, Louisiana. She moved to Shreveport at 17 years old and went to work for the telephone company. While living in Shreveport, she met and married R.V. “Buddy” Hood in December 1951. Together they owned and operated Hood Realty and Hood Mobile Homes. She eventually retired after 20 years with Bossier Mobile Homes (aka) Greg Tilley’s Manufactured Housing. She was a member of the Jaycee Jaynes and Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years R. V. “Buddy” Hood; two sisters, Geraldine “Jerri” Wilkins, Murlene Wren; four brothers, Robert Methvin, Alvin Methvin, Kakie Methvin, and Melvin Ray Methvin.
Mildred is survived by her sister, Charlene Carter Spurrier; four sons Gary Hood (Mary Ruth), Ricky Hood (DiAnna), David Hood (Pam), Mark Hood (Cindy); and one daughter, Vicki Hood Collins; twelve grandchildren, Matthew Hood, Jessica Hood Wilson, Jennifer Hood Hair, Kellie Hood Drach, Haley Collins Michell, Crystal Hood, Susan Hood Crowe, Laura Hood, Alex Hood, Morgan Hood Calloway, Heather Schramm Thompson, and David Shramm; sixteen great-grandchildren, Austin Hair, Logan Hair, Shelby Wilson, Gavin Wilson, Madilynne Michell, Liam Michell, Lexie Crowe, Georgia Hood, Bridget Collins, Angel Collins, Evie Williams, Lennox Williams, Dakota Thompson, Kimber Schramm, Kristian Schramm and Kristin Thompson and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
She will be remembered by her family and friends as a kind hearted and loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was known to her family as the “peacekeeper”. She was truly the matriarch of her family.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Royal Becker and the many nurses and staff members of 3rd floor North of Willis Knighton Bossier who cared so kindly and delicately for her over the past few weeks.
We would also like to thank a wonderful friend, Ava McElwee, who has loved and supported our mother and family for many years.
