Oscar Silvino Villar was born to proud parents, Oscar and Maria Villar, in Havana, Cuba, on Thursday, February 17, 1938.
The Villar family moved to the United States when Oscar was only 13 years old. He grew up in Flatbush, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. Shortly after high school, young Mr. Villar decided to serve his new country and joined the United States Air Force. Oscar made a career out of this service, serving a large percentage in Asia, including: Taiwan, the Viet Nam War Zone, and Thailand.
Oscar met Wenshu, the love of his life, on a beach in Taiwan and they were married, December 30, 1961, in Taiwan then relocated to Watertown, New York. Together they lovingly raised six boys, in North Louisiana, between Barksdale Air Force Base and in Bossier City. Later he retired at Barksdale Air Force Base. He achieved the Rank of Master Sergeant while eclipsing 20 years of military service, earning his Associates degree, from Louisiana Tech University, and only one class shy of a bachelor's, along the way. Upon his honorable discharge, he was recruited into the Federal Aviation Administration as a second career, until his retirement.
The next chapter began when Oscar and Wenshu built their dream country home--themselves, in Haughton. In 2011, while celebrating their Golden 50th anniversary, on a Caribbean cruise, they romantically renewed their wedding vows.
During his service, MSGT Villar was awarded numerous medals in recognition of his service to include: Air Force Commendation Medal; Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award. Throughout his life he enjoyed many things, but a few hobbies and special interests of note were: Technology, Automotive Restoration, Photography, Woodworking, and spending as much time as possible with his beloved family and friends.
