Philip grew up in Whiteville, NC and after graduating from East Carolina University and active participation in ROTC, joined the US Air Force. His first assignment, at Barksdale AFB in Louisiana as a KC-135 navigator, was where he married Beverly Weaver in October 1960. From there, Philip launched a distinguished military career that included missiles in Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota, tours of duty in Phu Cat (Vietnam) in air surveillance, KC-135 aircraft navigation in Blytheville AFB in Arkansas, chief of operations and plans in Kadena AFB in Okinawa, and finally returning to Barksdale AFB where he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the military. It was during his Aerial Reconnaissance assignment that Philip received his Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight.
Throughout his life, Philip touched many people with his kindness, selfless nature and positive attitude. As a young boy, he brought his beloved dog to a war bond auction raising $50,000 for the war and his Uncle Lacy (USMC) in 1944, he proudly served our country in the Air Force, and between organizing blood drives, gardening, cooking, and enjoying cruises with family and friends, he was the best of friends, told the funniest jokes and stories, and was the greatest husband and dad anyone could ask for.
Philip is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Weaver; brother, Gary Weaver; children, Philip Weaver, Jr (Michelle) and Pam Weaver; grandchildren, Griffin Lundin, Nathaniel Lopuszynski, and Abigail Lopuszynski.
