It is with great sadness that we share the news of Randall K. Skinner passing at the age of 68 in Haughton, Louisiana, on March 2, 2025. He was born in Beaumont, Texas on September 11, 1956. Randy’s life was shaped by his upbringing in a military family, which led him to experience the diverse beauty of places like California and Louisiana. Throughout his life California held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his father, Forrest Eugene Skinner Sr., and his mother, Bettye Jane Miller. He is survived by his spouse, Melinda N. Brown Skinner as well as his mother-in-law, Emma Gene Brown, and his father-in-law, William Dean Brown, Sr. He is also survived by his niece, Stephanie D. Taylor, and her husband, Nathan W. Taylor; his brothers, Gary Russell and his wife, Anna; Forrest “Bud” Eugene Skinner Jr.; and Timothy Alan Skinner.
Additional survivors include his niece, Cate Watkins, her husband, Bobby, and their children, Riley, Kaylee, Hayes and Evan, his nephew, Sam Skinner, his wife, Melissa, and their daughter, Nola.
We would like to give special thanks to the Bossier City Fire and Police Department and the other first responders that provided support to our family.
Randy was a patient, loving man with movie star looks but a humble personality. He had a great quirky sense of humor and always had a smile shining in his eyes. He had a knack for laughter and spreading joy to those around him. Often, you would hear him singing beautifully to himself or whistling in the morning. He was a tireless worker, dedicating himself fully to his responsibilities until his health limited him to do so. Despite these challenges, he remained a foundation of support and generosity for his family and anyone in need.
Randy lived a simple life, finding joy in the little things rather than in material possessions. His old 1996 Chevy truck was a source of immense pride for him; it was more than just a vehicle, it was a symbol of his journey and experiences, one he never dreamed of trading for anything else.
He had an unwavering love for animals, especially dogs, which played an integral role in his life from a young age. He cherished them as if they were his own children, pouring all his affection into their care. Among the many furry, “Best Friend” companions, he welcomed into his heart were Fred, Bobby, and Ruby, each holding a very special place in his life.
Ruby, in particular, was a remarkable part of his story. He rescued her when she lost her previous owners, and since that day, she became his faithful shadow, remaining by his side even in his final moments. Their bond was truly a testament to the love and loyalty that exists between a person and their “Best Friend”.
The love of his life, Melinda N. Brown Skinner, who entered his heart at a young age. Their love story was one for the ages—filled with passion but also life trials that had pushed them apart. They were married and then went their separate ways. However, recently fate brought them back together. Randy made the life changing and heartfelt decision to pack up all his belongings, take Ruby, and drive his truck from California to Louisiana, filled with love to be with his “Nelly” Melinda.
Their love endured despite life’s obstacles, and it was destiny that reunited them when they needed each other the most. They had plans to renew their vows and celebrate their love in a special ceremony this year.
“The risk of love is loss, and the price of loss is grief. But the pain of grief is only a shadow when compared with the pain of never risking love.” – Hilary Stanton Zunin
