

Rev. Richard Gilbert Martin, of Shreveport Louisiana, age 87, died Thursday July 28, 2022 at Heritage Manor South, Shreveport. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday August 2, 2022 at Redeemer Community Church 3030 Colquitt Rd. Private family burial in Hill Crest Memorial Park. Family will receive visitors from 12:00 noon until time of services at the church.
Richard was born in Bristol Tennessee on Aug. 2, 1934 the only son and baby of seven children to Gale Gilbert and Elizabeth Jessee Martin. He was joined in marriage to Grace Joanne Sowers on November 19, 1955 in Bristol Tennessee. His love of music began at an early age singing in Men’s Quartet in High School and College including several national contests, he could even be heard whistling numerous tunes while he worked on his intricate miniature rooms and building a hobby he continued into his later years. He loved to travel and made many trips to Israel with members of his church groups.
Richard started his theological education and graduated from Philadelphia Bible Institute in 1955 and continued and graduated from Southeastern Bible College in 1958. His church leadership spanned over forty years as a pastor serving at Plano Bible Church in Plano, Illinois, Village Bible Church in Sugar Grove, Illinois, Community Bible Church in Keithville, Louisiana, and Grace Community Church, Alabaster, Alabama, and was a member of the Independent Fundamental Churches of America.
He is survived by his wife of over sixty-six years Grace. His loving children: Scott and wife Gail Martin, Greg and wife Linda Martin, Elizabeth and husband Chris Ventura, and Dwight and wife Margie Martin. He also leaves his nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and a host of extended family, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and six sisters.
