Samuel was born on January 6, 1941 to Marshall Napoleon and Glennie Roselle Greer in Martin, LA. He grew up working in the cotton field and he played baseball and basketball for Martin School. Samuel was in the U.S. Coast Guard, which took him to San Francisco and Mexico. He worked at KCS Railroad in Shreveport for 39 years before retiring in 2001.
Samuel loved genealogy, telling stories about his childhood and family, singing old “crazy” country songs, carpentry, watching Christian programing, sweets, Coke Zero, banana pudding, ice cream, and most of all, his grandchildren.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, Napoleon and Roselle Greer; sister Patsy Greer; brother Glenn Greer; sister-in-law LoDee Kerbow Greer; niece Chennaye Greer; and mother-in-law Veretta Weiland.
Samuel is survived by his wife of 54 years, Glenda Weiland Greer; daughter Tanya Greer Bailiff; son Scott Samuel Greer and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Melanie Lauren Bailiff, Peyton Samuel Bailiff, Ella Gracen Bailiff, and Logan Scott Greer; brothers, Danny Ray Greer and wife Jackie, David Greer and wife Ethel, and Bobby Greer; father-in-law Herman Weiland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Samuel will be held Friday, June 14, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana 71037. Following the visitation will be a family graveside service at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Weiland, Ed Weiland, Darrel Weiland, Matt Weiland, Peyton Bailiff, and Logan Greer.
The family would like to thank the staff at Old Brownlee Community Center, STAT Home Health, and St. Joseph Hospice. Special thanks to nurse Paige and social worker Stephanie from St. Joseph for their kindness and care during this time.
