

Funeral services celebrating the life of Sandra Marie Walters Maxey, age 83, will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, Hwy 80, Haughton, LA, on Monday, November 4th, 2024. Visitation will be held at 5:00pm. The service will start at 6:30pm.
Sandra was born September 29th, 1941 in Shreveport, LA to Carey and Lois Walters. She passed away peacefully, October 27th, 2024 at the home of her son, after fighting four cancers for a year. After WWII her daddy worked for United Gas Pipe Line Company and they moved to Rodessa, LA for five years; Fenton, LA for four years; then to New Iberia, LA, where she graduated from New Iberia High School in 1959.
Sandra moved to Shreveport and began her career in banking at First National Bank. She met and married Leon Maxey in 1960. They had two children, Donna Kay and James David. Together they lived in Minden, West Monroe, New Orleans and Slidell before returning to Bossier City in 1971. While in Slidell she worked for two banks in eight years, National Bank of Bossier for 17 years and Hibernia National Bank for 17 years, retiring in 2006 to enjoy her grandkids.
Sandra was dedicated to her children and grandchildren. She missed less than 10 events in the 35+ years of her children and grandchildren’s school, sporting or social activities.
Besides everything having to do with her grandkids, Sandra loved sweet tea, Notini’s mint tea, eating at local restaurants, watching the Saints, LSU, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, Atlanta Braves, and the Game Show Network.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Carey and Lois Walters, her husband of 55 years Leon Maxey and her daughter Donna Maxey Goodrich.
She is survived by; her son David Maxey, Sr., grandchildren Cristyn Nicole Maxey, David Maxey, Jr. and fiancée Rachael Coker, sister Karen Trunnell and husband Richard Trunnell, sister-in-law Catherine Maxey and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express our gratitude to Ms. Kathy and Ms. Sandra of Brown’s Nursing Service and Ms. Lucy of WK Hospice for the heartfelt care they gave mama/grandma over the last six weeks. Y’all were Awesome!
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to a worthwhile charity of your choosing that involves: fighting cancer or any women’s health issue, benefiting children, US Veterans or the homeless.
