

Shirley Gene Luecke Cavanaugh, 89, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away on November 15, 2025. Born on February 25, 1936, in Hartsburg, Missouri, Shirley lived a full and spirited life marked by love, strength, and authenticity.
Shirley spent many years working at Kmart, a job she truly enjoyed and took pride in. Outside of work, she poured her heart into the things she loved most—crafting, sewing, and caring for her many plants. She had a spicy personality and never hesitated to speak her mind, a trait cherished by everyone who knew her.
Above all, Shirley’s greatest joy in life was her family. She deeply loved her four children, all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Being a mother and grandmother was her proudest accomplishment, and she embraced those roles with unwavering devotion. Shirley held a special place in her heart for her beloved dogs, whom she affectionately referred to as her “puppy dogs". They were constant companions and brought her tremendous joy. She was also a loyal and enthusiastic Texas Rangers fan and rarely missed a chance to cheer them on.
Shirley is survived by her sons Steven Cavanaugh and Jeffery Cavanaugh; her daughter Susan Cavanaugh; and her grandchildren Stephanie Almaguer, Alanna Cavanaugh, Jeffery McLaren, James Cavanaugh, Ashley Watts, Michael Cavanaugh, Eric Cavanaugh, Alicia Poston, Tiffany Muñoz, and Matthew Cavanaugh; as well as many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cavanaugh; her daughter, Julia Cavanaugh; her granddaughter, Amanda Tarrance; her parents, Herman Luecke and Elsie Luecke; and her brothers, Ray Luecke and Harold Luecke.
Shirley’s strong will, warm heart, and vibrant spirit will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on through the family she loved so deeply.
