Shirley Rose Pool passed away during the early morning hours of December 4, 2021 at Heritage Manor Stratmore in Shreveport, Louisiana. Born in Houston, Texas on December 21, 1934 she was one of 7 children, and spent the greater part of her life in Texas. In her early years she was a champion team water-skier and a life long member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. She was also a member of the Texas Women’s Bowling Association, winning many state titles. She was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed deep-sea fishing. She attended business school while working at KRLD News Station in Dallas, Texas and later entered into the beauty supply business, owning Gibson Beauty Supplies in Bossier City, Louisiana. She was most proud of obtaining her Cosmetology License from Barrow Beauty School in Tyler, Texas. She was a major baseball and horse racing fan. If you knew her well you never called or paid a visit during the World Series or Kentucky Derby.
We are comforted in knowing she is now free of any pain and in the hands of our Lord and Savior. She leaves behind her loving husband of 39 years, Bill Pool,; daughter, Valerie Ponder and husband Mark; son, Kenneth Vickers and wife Claudia; grandchildren, Jennifer Schultz and husband Adrian, Brian Vickers, Ceson Ponder, Caitlin Lang, Erik Vickers and Jude Vickers; great grandson, Baylor Ledbetter; and great granddaughters, Bailey Vickers and Avery Schultz.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Savannah Grand, the Bloom in Bossier, Earl Alexander of Golden Gate Nursing Services, Heritage Manor Stratmore and Lifepath Hospice for your care and kindness. Our heartfelt gratitude to Laurie Manno, Dorene Goodman, and Julie Reynolds for going above and beyond in assisting and caring for our mother and family members.
We are gratefully left with so many sweet memories and funny moments that “only Meme could get away with”. She had such a great sense of humor and to the end appreciated her life, the help of others, and her family. When she could say very little, her smile still came through at the humor of things. She deeply loved each and every member of her family and we are stronger for having her a part of our lives. Through our tears we are comforted in that we know, beyond a doubt, that she had a strong relationship with our Lord and Savior and whose hands she is now within.
