Thelma "Ann" Mapes-Burdue, 84 of Bossier City, LA, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2022. She was born in Cygnet, OH on December 31, 1937. After graduating high school, Ann married Gail C. Burdue on July 1, 1955. They were then transferred to Biloxi, MS via the Air Force, followed by a move to Tampa, FL where they had three children. In 1968, the family moved to Bossier City, LA and enjoyed bowling at Tebbe's Bowling Alley where Ann coordinated league play. In 1977, she went to work for Sears as a coordinator for the installation department where she worked until retirement in 1992. After retiring, she became full time "Grandma Ann". At this time, Gail and Ann became heavily involved at First Christian Church of Bossier where she served as treasurer for the rest of her days. She enjoyed her monthly Bunco nights with her daughter and their friends as she genuinely enjoyed people. Her favorite past times were knitting, baking, and cooking for any and all occasions.
To put it mildly, Ann was absolutely a servant of God, and a server to people. Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Gail C. Burdue; her son, Eric Vern Burdue; her parents, Alva Maples and Bernice Engler; and her brother, Everette "Sonny" Mapes.
She is survived in life by her son, Mark Steven Burdue and wife Charlotte Sue Burdue; her daughter, Tanya Gay Grantham and husband Phillip Neal Grantham; her grandchildren, Steven Eric Burke and wife Katie Ann Burke, Joshua Phillip Grantham and wife Lucy Kaye Grantham, and Alana Brooke White and husband Dustin Lee White; her great grandchildren, Rylie Alyssa Atkinson, John Parker Atkinson, Landon Lee White, Reese Adaline Burke, Phillip Parish Grantham and Fallon Faith Burke.
Found in Ann's Bible written in her handwriting was "God promised in our sufferings, we would never be alone. There will be an end to our pain, sufferings and loneliness. We will be with him, and this would be Heaven".
"The dead are never far from us, no more than a breath. They are in our hearts and on our minds and in the end all that separates us from them is a single breath, one final puff of air".
We would like to express our gratitude to the doctors and staff of Intensive Specialty Hospital for their care of our mother. Any donations can be made to First Christian Church of Bossier City at 2205 Shed Rd. Bossier City, LA 71111.
Services to celebrate Ann’s life will be on Friday, June 3, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. prior to services.
Honoring Ann as pallbearers are Steven Burke, Joshua Grantham, Dustin White, John Parker Atkinson, Darrin Grantham, and John Harvey.
