Tommy Batie, 87, of Shreveport, Louisiana went home to his heavenly father on Saturday, July 14, 2018. He was born June 26, 1931 in Ashdown, Arkansas. In 1950, after high school, Tommy joined the Marine Corp. Following his service as a marine, Tommy attended the University of Arkansas obtaining a degree in pharmacy in 1958. That same year, he married Ila and moved to Shreveport, Louisiana. Tommy began his career at Naremore’s Freestate Drug. He later purchased the store which eventually became Batie’s Pharmacy. Tommy retired in December 2006 after practicing pharmacy in North Shreveport for nearly 50 years.
Tommy was a member of the University Church of Christ in Shreveport, where he served first as a deacon and then an elder for over 30 years. Tommy was also a member of the Civil War Round Table, Sons of the Confederate Veterans and the American Legion.
Preceding him in death are his parents, George Forest and Sadie Naomie Batie and one sister, Mary Maggio. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Ila; sons, Jeff Batie of Centennial, Colorado, Stephen Batie and wife Cindy of Shreveport, Louisiana and Andrew Batie and wife Darlene of Nashville, Tennesee; six grandchildren and one great grandchild; and sisters, Dot Weber of Haughton, Louisiana and Sara Parquette of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Services are scheduled for 11:30 AM, Thursday July 19, 2018 at University Church of Christ. Officiants for the service are Ministers Jerry Hodge and Stuart Freeman. The family welcomes friends to a visitation from 10:30 AM until service time at the church. Interment with military honors will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton, Louisiana.
Stephen Batie, Andrew Batie, Daniel Weber, Ben Head, Perry Martin and Ken Nichols will serve as pallbearers for Thursday’s service. Honorary pallbearers include Eddie Dunn, Jeff Batie, Bobby Hooper,
Steve Roop, Tom Little and Wendell Glass.
