William C. “Shorty” Frazier, age 93, loving father of three and adoring husband to Patricia Frazier, was called to his Father in Heaven on the 18th of July after a brief illness. Carlton (as he was known at home) was born in 1929 in Thomastown, Mississippi to the late Quitman C. Frazier and Virgie Mae Foster. As with many children of the 1930s, he spent much of his time helping on the family farm. Throughout his childhood, he was influenced by his family to be a loving and caring man, always giving his time to others, and he incorporated that into his fatherhood. In 1950, Carlton joined the United States Air Force as an aircraft maintainer and quickly became known as “Shorty” since he was the shortest man in his unit. However, what he lacked in height, he more than made up for in character, and he was beloved by his unit at Barksdale AFB, LA. It was here that in 1953, he met the love of his life, Patricia Ann Barlow. Despite not being Pat’s mother’s favorite suitor, she soon grew to love him as her own son, and he and Pat were married in 1954 which began a 67-year romance for the ages. During their love story, Shorty and Pat moved five times with the U.S. Air Force and welcomed three beautiful children who they loved with all their hearts. In the 1960s, Shorty and Pat endured an 18-month separation when he was sent to Thailand to ensure continued aircraft operations during Vietnam. In 1971, after 21 years in the United States Air Force, Shorty retired and began his career as an electrician with Barlow Electric before buying the company and renaming it Haughton Electric, Inc.
As Haughton’s premier electrician, he wired many homes in the Dogwood Park, Carriage Oaks, and Stockwell Place subdivisions. In 1981, Shorty welcomed his first of 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and was thrilled about his family growing even bigger. In his spare time, he absolutely loved going camping at Camp Albert’s Pike, Arkansas. During the summers, he could regularly be found there hiking Blueberry Hill with his grandchildren, using his “bear-poking stick”, and thrilling the surrounding campers with his multi-colored campfires. At any time during the year, Shorty was well-known for repeatedly singing 1-2 verses of How Great Thou Art, Great Is Thy Faithfulness, and yes, even songs like Behind Closed Doors while he walked around the house doing chores or spent time outside raising a garden in the summer sun. More than any of these things though, he was loved beyond measure by all who knew him. For his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, he was the best Daddy and Papaw we could ever know. He gave us sage advice like “never take any wooden nickels” and “it is better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.”
Shorty was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Mary Catherine Wilson, Quitman Carnes Frazier, Jr., and Hilda Marie Hall and granddaughter Anna Elizabeth Frazier. Left to cherish Daddy/Papaw’s memory are his sweet sugar doll, Patricia, his children Jeffrey and wife Barbie, daughter Tamara and husband Jack, and son David and wife Traci. His precious grandchildren Lesley and husband Darren, Blaise, Kathleen and husband Adam, Shane and wife Jessica, Zachary, Dustin and wife Tiffany, Philip and wife Sunny, Chase, Jolie Belle, Stormy and husband AJ, Rocky, Joshua, Juan, Fred, Val and Amparo will remember him always. His great-grandchildren, Joey, Peyton, Olivia, Jaelin, Wyatt, Hunter, Aubrianna, Madeline, Tenley, Christopher, Kora, Alex, Gracie, Lilly, Rodman, and Davy have known something many will never know…a great-grandfather who was as full of the spirit of Christ as he was the spirit of life. The friends he leaves behind will miss the man they knew but will celebrate the friend they know is waiting in the Kingdom of Heaven. Until we meet again, we will miss you every day and hold your memory close to our hearts.
Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00pm on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton, Louisiana with funeral services immediately following at 2:00pm
