Pete went to be with our Lord on November 1, 2011. He died peacefully in his sleep at his home with his wife by his side. Pete was born to Annie Mae Barnes and Robert LaFitte on May 16, 1921.
He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. Pete was captured in the Philippines and was a Japanese
Prisoner of War for three and a half years and a survivor of the Bataan Death March. Pete was awarded with two purple hearts, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, two Bronze Battle Stars, Philippine Defense Ribbon and one Bronze Battle Star, American Defense Service Ribbon and American Th Ribbon, Service strip, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and Distinguished Unit Badge, two Oak Leaf Clusters and seven Overseas Service Bars.
Pete is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alean, his children, Vickie LaFitte Wood of Haughton, LA, Debi Hardin and husband Doug of Haughton, LA, John LaFitte and wife Crystal of Haughton, LA, Pete LaFitte and wife Donna of Laurel, MS and Terry LaFitte and wife Carol of Baton Rouge, LA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryon, Joshua, Daniel, Deanna, Trey, Nicole, and Tiffany.
Pallbearers will be John LaFitte, Daniel Hardin, Ryon Wood, Joshua Wood, Doug Hardin and Jim Edwards.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Hill Crest Funeral Home from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 at First Baptist Haughton in the Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow with full military honors at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
