Wynona Crain Perry was born on June 21, 1930 in the Piney Woods of Texas. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband Irving (Mike) Perry. Both were active members of Asbury United Methodist Church. Nona was the daughter of the late Ezra and Sallie Crain of Huntington Texas, and the loving sister to the late Nelda Bates, Geneva Parish, Levetta Gupton, and brother, Vetma Crain.
She is survived by her daughter Paula Perry Taylor of Bossier City, Louisiana, granddaughter Josie Taylor Stocko and husband Alex of Atlanta, Georgia, and grandson Blaine Taylor of Nashville, Tennessee. She loved them very deeply. She never missed an opportunity to share big hugs, cook a roast for them, and support them in everything they did. Nona is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Charles Durham, of Lufkin, Texas, whom she loved dearly. Nona had a special bond with nieces Monica Weeks, Whitney Garza, Terri Reed and Annette Schultz, all of whom she loved wholeheartedly. Numerous nieces, nephews, and all of their children, were also special to “Aunt Nonni.” Her eyes and smile lit up anytime she saw them; in Nona’s world all were special.
Her adventures in life, after a farming childhood, started when she married Mike in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was a young Lt. in the Air Force from Buffalo NY, and she was a “country girl.” Their worlds intertwined, and she was off. She was never afraid of change or new experiences. Her favorite memories were Minot, ND and Altus Oklahoma. She often talked about the lifelong friendships she made there. She had so many stories of the bases they were stationed, and the vacations they experienced.
Her favorite topics, during her later years with Alzheimer’s Disease, were being a country doctor’s nurse, a nurse in Houston, the “old place”, and the pump hole at Shawnee Switch. Anyone who met her in her later years, knew those stories well.
Her kindness, smiles, and sense of humor were infectious. She never wanted to leave this world and the people she loved. Nona was the epitome of a Southern Christian woman. She loved Jesus, and loved to meet and care for people. She never judged, and she always lifted everyone up in her life. She truly was an angel on earth. She will be missed by all who crossed her path. Nona will always mean love.
To all who loved her, and helped at the end of her earthly life, thank you! I know she is so happy to see all those that went to heaven before her.
