I feel deep  sadness and shock after just learning about the passing of Amy. I was fortunate enough to meet Amy back in our college days when she was just at the beginnings of what became an amazing career and legacy. As so many have said, Amy was a wonderful friend and very gentle, sweet person with great wit and quiet wisdom. We reconnected during the pandemic after losing touch for many years, which was a true source of joy. My heart goes out to her family and the many others who feel the pain of her loss.

I’m so sorry to learn of Amy’s untimely passing.  Amy and I were neighbors  many years ago, and I enjoyed her gentle ways, humor and creativity.  I’ve enjoyed print from “ The Night Flight” she gifted to me - its been hanging in my bedroom for many years.  I’m sad we didn’t stay more closely in contact, but have enjoyed gifting her books to youngsters in my life and will forever treasure her memory.  My condolences to her loved ones, especially Lenny and Jacob.

Amy was a gracious, gentle, thoughtful and funny person.  We will miss her and her insights.  

Bea and Mr. Jones enriched my life as a parent, as a kindergarten teacher, and as a believer in the great importance of beautiful writing for our youngest readers.  Amy Schwartz, you will be missed.

Amy was an old friend. We met for lunch every month. or so had a walk in Brooklyn Heights. We had plans to go to the theater in a few weeks. I am so heartbroken. My condolences to Lenny and Jacob for this tragic loss.

We have all lost such a wonderful and unique light in children's book.  My condolences and heart goes out to Leonard and all of Amy's family and all who loved her.   

In our house it was Oma and Bobo and Crack of Dawn Walkers; the paperback copies were worn  to shreds. And what children’s writer hasn’t turned to Begin at the Beginning for guidance at least once and probably many times? Amy Schwartz, you will be missed. 

Bea and Mr. Jones is still one of my favorite kids books and a brilliant mix of words and art plus it’s funny. Amy’s work has inspired my career. I am so sorry to read this sad news.  Her brilliant and charming work has touched many lives. 

Deepest condolences to Leonard and family. We have so many happy memories of reading Amy’s books to our son and now our grandchildren. “Bea and Mr. Jones” is one of life’s touchstones.
