on June 14, 2025. Born March 15, 1929 in New Rochelle, NY, he was the son of Jack and Ruth Bloom, owners of men’s clothing store Bloom & Bloom. Burt married “the girl next door,“ Miriam Weinberg (Mimi), on August 30, 1952.
His love of learning was evident as a youngster, resulting in entrance to New York University at age 16. As a NYS-licensed CPA, he co-founded the firm Bloom & Streit and commenced years of financial oversight for individuals, businesses, and trusts. In the early years of computers, he led the firm’s adoption of computer technology and learned how to implement a configurable accounting software package. Later he earned certification in practice valuations and added that expertise to his practice. In semi-retirement, he managed some devoted clients into his early 90s.
Burt was a natural leader and volunteer. At NYU he became the youngest president of his fraternity. In Yonkers, he co-founded the Greystone Jewish Center and later served at Temple Israel Center in White Plains as Comptroller, Board Member, High Holy Days Usher, and active participant in social events. When asked to become Temple president, he decided that he could help more as Comptroller and later was honored for his years of service. He was president of the Knights of Pythias, a men’s service organization, and volunteered as Comptroller for both Ridgeway Country Club and Sapphire Valley Timeshares, NC.
His interest in the world took the couple to many places. Friends were dear, and he was never so happy as when he was with them. He enjoyed golf (twice hitting a hole-in-one), bowling, bridge, theater, music, and hosting at home. The couple joined Ridgeway Country Club and, later, Hampshire Country Club and vacationed in the U.S. and elsewhere. In more recent years, he joined The Old Guard in White Plains, a senior men’s social group, and valued the camaraderie there.
Above all, Burt was devoted to his family. His sense of humor was contagious, and he was always happy to listen and offer advice. The extended family enthusiastically celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary in the summer of 2022.
Burt is survived by his beloved wife Mimi, daughter Joanne Miller and son-in-law Wayne T. Miller, daughter Linda Glauber, son David Bloom and daughter-in-law Margaret Lillis Bloom, and other relatives, including many grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and a great-grandson.
