Judith L. Deutsch

We are very saddened to announce the death of Judy Deutsch on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Born Judith Lynn Drimmer on March 6, 1943 in New Rochelle, NY to Harold and Florence Drimmer, she went on to attend Emma Willard and New Rochelle High School.

After graduating from Brandeis University in 1964, where she was a varsity fencer, Judy married Herbert Deutsch in August of 1964. She taught US History at New Rochelle High School before her children were born.

In addition to being a devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt, Judy was a talented artist. She created beautiful jewelry and stunning sculptures, and her knitting was widely admired, particularly in the form of exquisite baby blankets for some lucky little ones and intricate sweaters, many of which were displayed in yarn shop windows. Judy was always an avid reader, with a lively interest in current affairs, and she never met a houseplant she couldn’t kill.

She battled so many medical hardships through the course of her life, from a car accident in 1977 that cost her the use of a leg, through strokes, diabetes, breast cancer, leg amputation, and finally pancreatic cancer. Throughout all these travails, however, she never complained. Instead, she focused on the positive, remaining upbeat and cheerful, usually more concerned with the many challenges and joys that her family regularly called to share with her. She took a deep interest in all the goings-on of the people she loved, and was always the first with a word of consolation or congratulations as needed. She loved deeply, unconditionally, and unstintingly, and her family is grateful for all the time we had with her.

Judy is survived by her husband, Herbert, and brothers, Steve and Eric Drimmer. She leaves behind the following grieving family members: son Jeremy Deutsch and daughter-in-law Benedicte Berg; daughter Stephanie Nathanson; grandchildren Alida Deutsch, Alexander Deutsch, Zachary Rishko, Teddy Deutsch, and Sammy Nathanson, and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
