Born on April 29, 1943, Sylvia spent her early years at the Lincoln Houses and later at Lenox Terrace in Harlem, where she lived with her family through her formative years and into young adulthood. Her life journey took her to New Jersey, where she lived with her close friend Geraldine Robinson, then to the Chelsea section of New York City as a young mother, and finally to Spring Valley, NY, where she resided for the remainder of her life.
Sylvia's educational journey reflected her deep commitment to service and lifelong learning. She attended a neighborhood Catholic elementary school and went on to graduate from Cathedral High School. She earned her nursing diploma from Harlem Hospital School of Nursing in 1967 and later specialized in anesthesia, graduating from the Harlem Hospital School of Anesthesia for Nurses in 1969. She continued her academic pursuits, earning a Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences from Jersey City State College in 1977 and a Master's degree from Hunter College of the City University of New York in 1980.
Throughout her distinguished career in Women's Health Services across New York and New Jersey, Sylvia served as a Chief Nurse Anesthetist and later as an Administrator following her graduate studies. Even after retirement, she remained active in the medical community as a staff nurse anesthetist at an endoscopic outpatient facility in New York.
Sylvia was the devoted daughter of Virgil Mossup and Eric Dickens. She is survived by her beloved son, Dorian Dickens Regester, and her treasured grandchildren: Emerey, Garrett, Winston, and Oliver Regester.
Sylvia will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to healing, her strong sense of community, and the deep love she held for her family and friends. Her legacy of compassion and service lives on in all who had the honor of knowing her.
