Born on September 20, 1946, in Olongapo City, Philippines, Asner was known to family and friends as AJ, or Brother AJ / Ka AJ by his fellow brethren in the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ). AJ enjoyed playing tennis, spending time outdoors with close friends and family, and singing karaoke. He was known for his infectious smile and compassionate spirit. Though he will truly be missed, he has finished his race, as recorded in scripture:
2 Timothy 4:7-8 ESV "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing."
A decorated Vietnam War veteran, AJ retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer (SCPO) after 21 years of honorable service in the U.S. Navy. Upon returning to civilian life, he pursued higher education, ultimately achieving his Ph.D. He served his country once again as a GS-13 at the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines until 2000. Embracing semi-retirement, AJ then shared his wealth of knowledge as a professor of psychology, teaching at several academic institutions throughout the Philippines. He eventually returned home to the U.S. in the mid-2000s, spending his retirement years in California.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Divinia Geronimo Warrick; his parents, Asner Sr. and Juanita; his sister, Jane; and his brother, Cielito. Asner’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Annie Warrick; his seven siblings, Danilo, Rick, Ronald, Abraham, Joseph, Vivian, and Linda; his three children, Allan, Jennifer, and Janine; his four grandchildren, Angelica, Aldrin, Alex, and Josephine; and his great-grandson, Axel.
