Mae Tanksley was born February 27, 1922, to parents Clyde and Netta Thurman in Buena Park, California. Mae married her high school sweetheart, Linder Tanksley on March 15, 1943. He served as a bombardier over Germany during World War II, and was a decorated war hero. They attended Biola College in Los Angeles, and served the Lord together as linguistic missionaries in southern Mexico. After thirty-eight years of service with Wycliffe Bible Translators, Linder and Mae retired in Hesperia, CA, where they helped to plant a Baptist church. Later they attended the High Desert Church in Victorville, serving in the Seniors Sunday School class. After Linder's death in 2011, Mae moved to Moreno Valley, then Riverside.
Married almost 68 years, her loving husband Linder preceded her in death. Mae was also preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Netta, and brother Dean. She is survived by her son, Bob Tanksley and daughter-in-law Patti of Oklahoma, and Bob's four children, Robby, Matthew, Charlie, and Patty; son Bill Tanksley and daughter-in-law Mary of Oceanside, and their eight children, William, Steve, Wes, Esther, Brian, Emily, David, and Karis; daughter Susi (Tanksley) and son-in-law Henri Boutault of Georgia, and their two daughters Jennette and Melain; daughter Meli (Tanksley) and son-in-law Eric Van Natta of Moreno Valley, and her children, David and Rebekah; and son Sam Tanksley and daughter-in-law Sheila of Santa Barbara and their two daughters, Megan and Brenna. She also leaves 27 great-grandchildren.
Mae was loved and respected for her devotion to the Lord and lifelong service to Him, as well as her love of family, and her great strength of character and integrity. She was a great servant of the Lord. We take comfort in knowing she is united with the Lord Jesus, her husband Linder and many family and friends, in the presence of God. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators, P.O. Box 628200, Orlando, FL 32862. A Celebration of Life will be held at Crosswinds Church in Moreno Valley on October 24th at 3 p.m.
