Donald G Hiatt Of Murrieta passed away Monday October 22 at the age of 84 peacefully at Rancho Springs Medical Center from lung cancer. Don was born in Sullivan County Indiana to the late Edith (Saucerman) Hiatt and Leslie R Hiatt on May 27, 1934.
He graduated Union Dugger HS in 1951 where he was on football, baseball and basketball teams and pursued a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Wabash College where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, The Sphinx Club, played football on the 1951 undefeated team and graduated in 1955. His 35 year sales and marketing career in the telecommunications industry began with Indiana Bell where he was notably recognized as Mr.Touch-tone for his work in launching the touch-tone phone to the country. His career continued with positions at AT&T, ITT Corporation, Stromberg Carlson and his final appointment as Director of Marketing at Contel for the western region which brought him to California.
Don married Sarah Ann Willis and had two children, Jeffrey and Jennifer. In 1987 he was married to Caroll Cartmell Hiatt and they shared 31 wonderful years together. Don was pre-deceased by his parents, his brothers; Ralph E Hiatt, Richard D Hiatt, and his first wife Sarah (Willis) Hiatt.
Don is survived by his wife Caroll Cartmell Hiatt, his brother Jon R Hiatt (Freeda), his son Jeffrey Willis Hiatt (Tammy), his daughter Jennifer Hiatt Strauss (Frank), his granddaughters Samantha Paige Specht and Lauren Elisabeth Smithers and his surrogate grandson Robert Cartmell IV along with numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the BPOE Elks and was appointed as a member of the Riverside County Grand Jury Census Bureau. He enjoyed all sports, particularly his love of golf and fishing. Don and Caroll loved to travel both domestically and abroad. They traveled across the US in their motor home not once, but twice. They loved meeting friends and family; fishing and enjoying all the country had to offer.
