Doris Corbin

Doris Russ Corbin passed away June 18, 2013 at the age of 99 of natural causes. Her health had been failing for the last several months. Doris was born to Robert Emmett and Anna (Fenner) Scofield on July 6, 1913 in Leslie, Michigan. Rob was a co-owner of the Scofield Bros. Meat Market in Leslie. Doris graduated from Leslie High School in 1931. She worked at Bartlett's Resort at Pleasant Lake from about 1929-1933.

On June 27, 1937 she married Bernie Elgene Corbin of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, her high school sweetheart, and they moved to Lansing, Michigan where Elgene worked at the Moores Park and Ottawa Street Power Plants of the Board of Water and Light.

In 1943 their only child, Roberta, was born. They were very active in Roberta's school and along with others formed the Holmes Street School PTA and founded the Holmes Street School Carnival to raise money for the school.

In 1952 Doris and her husband, Elgene, bought East Side Maytag on E. Michigan Ave. In Lansing which they operated until 1975 when they retired. They were active in the East Side Commercial Club in Lansing.

Doris and Elgene were married 54 years. After Elgene passed away in 1991, Doris continued to live in Lansing until 1996 when she moved to California to live with her daughter and son-in-law. At her passing she lived at Emeritus At Hemet Assisted Living.

Doris loved to garden, read, play cards and bingo and tell stories about growing up in Leslie. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Roberta Corbin, her son-in-law, Lawrence Kueneman, a step daughter and her husband and three step great grandchildren all of Iowa and California.

Doris will be interred in Woodlawn Cemetery in Leslie, Michigan with her late husband, Elgene and several generations of the Scofield Family. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris' name to Vitas Hospice, 1845 Business Center Drive, Suite 120, San Bernardino, CA 92408.
