Dorothy Marie Patterson was born Tuesday, January 9, 1940 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of six children born to the union of the late Dewitt Patterson and the late Lelah (Potter) Patterson. Dorothy relocated to California over 50 years ago. She had many trials and tribulations but she found strength in the word of God.
1 Corinthians 15:58 reads Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Dorothy answered the Calling upon her life and was the Pastor of God's Ministries in Los Angeles, California for 20 years. After relocating to Moreno Valley, California she continued to share the word of the Lord. She was a blessing to numerous people; leading countless souls to the Lord Jesus Christ. Dorothy was a talented Beautician; as well as a LVN. She was a loving and devoted mother, sister and friend. She rejoiced when she was able to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On Saturday, June 29, 2013, in Duarte, California Dorothy was called Home to Glory. She ran a good race and finished her course and now she may rest from all labor. We that remain to work for the Lord shall rejoice in her homegoing and look forward to the day that we will see her again in that New Jerusalem.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and brothers. She is survived by her sons, David L. Powell and Michael D. Powell; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Queen Esther Hightower (Melvin) and Mae Frances Crosby (Jesse); extended family member, James Miller; nieces and nephews; God Daughters, Sonia and Belinda and a host of other family members and friends. She will forever be loved and cherished.
