

Edward attended many schools in the Passaic County School District before joining the Marine Corps in 1960. Shortly thereafter he married the love of his life Sandra Mattie (Jake) Milligan in his parents living room on River Drive. He honeymoon was spent in his parents house then he immediately went on his first tour of Vietnam.
Edward has an extensive Military Career being stationed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Hawaii, Missouri and California with various tours to Vietnam (twice to be exact) and Okinawa, Japan. He joined the Marine Corps as a private and worked his way up to being the back bone of the Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1975 here in California. All while getting his GED and later graduating fro Mira Costa College in Oceanside, CA with a BS in Accounting in 1977 the same year that his oldest daughter graduated High School.
He worked for the Oceanside Water District for 6 years before working for the City of Oceanside as an Accountant. He also worked for the United States Post Office first in San Diego and later in Wildomar where he became a Carrier Supervisor before retiring in 2002. He also served on the Los Angeles County Grand Jury for several years before finally hanging up his hat. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 595 & 1000 and the VFW.
Edward was predeceased by his brother Oley (Triby) Durham Jr, His father Oley Durham in 1987, and his mother Doris Durham in 1994. He is survived by his wife Sandra Mattie (Milligan) McClain of 55 years. His legacy his six children Marva McCleod (Cleve) of Passaic, New Jersey, Doreene McClain of Vista, California, Edward Tyrone McClain of New York, Shawn Johnson of East Orange, New Jersey, Sherri Emanuel of Houston, Texas, and Christopher McClain (Deena) of Carlsbad, California. Fourteen Grandchildren and fifteen great grand children, long time dear friends Billy & Francis Young and Richie Smith and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and some really, really good friends.
Edward's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 22nd during the visitation beginning at 10:00 AM with the funeral service toll be held at 11:00 AM in the Second Missionary Baptist Church, 5301 Mare Road, Oceanside, California. Interment will be in the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
