Ellen Yvonne Weiss of Hemet, California went to be with her beloved Lord Jesus on March 21, 2012. Born on June 14, 1924 in Indonesia, she was the eldest of four sisters. She married Christiaan Weiss on Christmas Even 1947, and they were married for 52 happy years until his passing on May 19, 1999. Since her retirement from Disney resorts and their move to Hemet, Mom's life was full of her grandchildren, travelling, line dancing, crocheting, and just enjoying time with her family and church. If there was a social event going on, you could bet, she would be there. We loved to see her in her favorite bright colors and animal print. We will especially miss her spunk and the naughty sparkle in her eye. Up until the very end, she was ready for fun. In fact, two weeks before her passing, she learned to play poker with her grandchildren! Our mother knew wartime sacrifice, self-reliance, courage, and great faith. She survived a Japanese internment camp in her native Indonesia, being an unwelcome immigrant into Holland after the war, and finally, the hard work of chasing the American dream and making it a reality for her children. Mom is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Johanna von Polanen Petel, a stillborn baby daughter, Patricia, her husband Christiaan Weiss, and her sister, Hetty Peeters. She is survived by her sisters Jenny Francken and Loeky Anten, her children Marilyn (Joel) Helin, Rick (Valerie) Weiss, Alan (Karen) Weiss, Ingrid (Steve) Ferris, 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Finally, the family would like to thank Kathy, Linda, Homa, and Chaplain Jim of Cornerstone Hospice for their love and encouragement the past few months. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, April 27, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Miller-Jones Mortuary in Perris. Reception immediately following in their hall from 2:00 -5:00 pm. Please let's honor her memory by wearing bright and cheerful colors!
